Out of difficulties grow miracles.

After suffering a stroke at age 6, my parents were told I'd never be a normal child. I'd never walk, play, or ride a bike. It was at that time that my mother, quietly, but firmly, told me get up and walk!
I did. I recovered enough from that stroke (caused by a carotid artery dissection), to go on to live a fairly typical life. Yet, after years of compensating for the weakness the stroke left me with, my body started experiencing pain and unbalance. With traditional doctors only able to prescribe pain relief, I sought out Dr. Hutt.
Dr. Hutt carefully took my past history and watched me walk and studied my weaknesses. After a few months of adjustments, the pain in my back and neck started to subside. I was very happy. Being out of constant pain and weekly migraines was like living a new life!
However, something else was happening...The fingers on my left hand (damaged for 30 years by stroke), seemed to be responding to mental commands. When a small piece of paper was in my way, my left hand reached out to move it. My hand also responded to simple tasks such as dressing and setting the table for dinner. This was amazing! For years my hand was dormant, my body reacting as a one-sided human being. But now, something was different. I could press my fingertips together on my left hand and I could send messages for them to move! After sharing this with Dr. Hutt, he assured me that neuro receptors in the brain could regrow and indeed be healed. It takes years and I was only seeing the beginning of what could improve. Traditional medicine tells us that once the body is injured, it is often permanent. Yet, by treating the mind and the body, as Chiropractic does, healing is possible. Within our mind, if it is balanced, lies the ability to heal ourselves.
Regenerating brain receptors seems like a hocus-pocus description. However, giving your sympathetic nervous system a clear pathway to help your body makes all the sense in the world. Dr. Hutt gives my nervous system a clear pathway to heal my body and remember
what it was actually born to do.
As I see Dr. Hutt on a regular basis, my body improves more and more. I continue to get stronger. With the addition of other mind-body practices, I continue to explore the mind-body connection.
Julia
My daughter Julia was diagnosed with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (CVS) in October, 2003. Julia was always a baby that threw up often. By the time she started eating solid foods, she never went more than 4 months without getting sick. When Julia got sick, she didn’t just throw up once or twice. It would last at least 6 to 8 hours, about every ½ hour, but then she would rebound and after a day or so would continue to grow and thrive. At the young age of 22 months, she was hospitalized for the first time for dehydration because of the constant vomiting. At four years old, she was hospitalized again when after throwing up for so long, she threw up bright red blood. She had torn her esophagus and was dehydrated. Shortly after this, she started on suppositories for when she would get sick. Although she hated these, as they were very uncomfortable and knocked her out, it kept her out of the hospital for a while. Whenever I would fill the prescription, the pharmacist used to cringe and ask why such a young child was taking such a strong medication. It was because it was the only thing that kept her from getting dehydrated since it would slow down the vomiting and make her tired. If hospitalized, the medication was even stronger (so at the time, this was our best choice). When she turned five she was hospitalized in September and then again in October (this time for 4 nights) again for dehydration. But on these visits even the hospital could not get her to stop throwing up and this caused concern. All of her hospital stays required blood work and eventually much more involved tests. After each hospital visit and all the tests, we would finally be told that it was a “virus” and she would be sent home. Because she thrived in-between each episode and all the tests came back normal, we knew there was a problem, but were not sure how to help her. I even kept a food log, thinking it was an allergic reaction to some type of food. Finally, we set up an appointment with Children’s Hospital and she was diagnosed with CVS. “Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome is sometimes called “abdominal migraine,” “migraine variant,” or sometimes inaccurately diagnosed as any of a number of functional gastrointestinal or psychological disorders. In some children and adults, CVS, if frequent or severe enough, can be disabling. CVS isn’t caused by “something you ate”; it isn’t repeated bouts of the “flu” or other infections. The cause of CVS hasn’t been isolated yet, but there are qualified professionals who can accurately diagnose and treat CVS.” This information is quoted by a website given to me by Children’s Hospital (www.cvsaonline.org).In October of 2004, on the recommendation of Children’s Hospital, we started Julia on a medication called Periactin. It is a daily medication. Although we had many reservations about putting her on it, we could not continue the way we were going. Each episode took her longer to bounce back, both physically and mentally. She began to know that once she threw up, it meant missing school for days, or whatever else we had planned. It became emotionally draining on the whole family. As we have another daughter, 3 years younger than Julia, the hospital stays were difficult. We decided, after deep consideration and research, to start her on the Periactin. Although I myself and my husband had never been to a chiropractor, I have experimented with alternative medicine and wanted to find a way to help Julia get off the medication and live a normal life. The testimonials I read about families and children with CVS were gut wrenching. I knew an acupuncturist would not work for Julia because of her fright of needles, so I looked into chiropractic. I called a few, talked to other people and eventually walked in off the street to Dr. Eden Hutt’s office. The timing could not have been better. He was in-between patients and I got to talk to him face to face. The other chiropractors I spoke with were willing to help Julia, but honestly said they did not know how, or if it would even help. Dr. Hutt however, thought he could help and we set up an appointment. Instantly after meeting with Dr. Hutt and listening to how he thought he could help Julia, I was confident that I was making the right decision. Unfortunately, our insurance did not cover the visits, and they were frequent in the beginning. But Dr. Hutt’s explanation of what was happening to Julia was very similar to Children’s Hospital. This only increased my confidence, so we took a chance. After Julia’s first visit with Dr. Hutt, I remember his face after he evaluated her. His eyes lit up. He thought he could help. I went home crying. Julia started with Dr. Hutt in January, 2004. She has been episode free since. We took her off the Periactin in February 2005. Although Children’s Hospital had “no comment” on using a chiropractor to treat Julia, after being episode-free for so long, they took his name and number and hoped to pass it on to other parents who were open to it. Julia still sees Dr. Hutt once every 3 weeks. It was the best thing we ever did! I have no doubts what it was that helped Julia. She now is EPISODE FREE and MEDICATION FREE! It doesn’t get any better than that.
Mary
I am currently 27 years old and I can remember back to at least 7 years of migraines. I wasn't diagnosed with the actual word Migraine until the summer of 2002. I had a headache at that time that lasted for two weeks. I was finally admitted overnight to the hospital because the pain had gotten so bad. After that, I spent many visits with the neurologist trying to pin down the cause of my headaches. While we explored food allergies and did other tests that indicated they might be tied to my menstrual cycle, we found nothing definite. We discussed options for treatment. I was given a few prescriptions to help with the pain and sent on my way. My doctors never mentioned chiropractic care as an option.
I was getting about 5 or 6 migraines a month when a friend suggested I see Dr. Hutt for a back problem I was experiencing. Dr. Hutt explained at my first visit how chiropractic could help with migraine treatment. After about a month of seeing Dr. Hutt, I had noticed that my migraines had substantially decreased in frequency. After seeing him on a regular basis, I had actually gone 2 months without a migraine. Two months without a migraine in 7 years is a wonderful thing! I am so grateful to Dr. Hutt for treating my migraines and amazed that my other doctors never recommended chiropractic.
